JULIAN, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A collision involving two vehicles on Saturday afternoon near State Route 78 has left two people dead, while two others were transported to a hospital via helicopter, according to CalFire.

CalFire received the call at around 2:52 p.m. of a reported head-on collision involving two cars near Mastros Trailer Park Road in Julian.
When crews arrived on scene, two people needed to be extricated from the vehicles, according to CalFire. At around 4:20 p.m., CalFire confirmed that two of the victims succumbed to their injuries, and the other two were being airlifted via helicopter to the hospital.
SR-78 is closed in both directions between Banner Road and San Felipe Road due to the fatal collision.
