On Wednesday, the royals headed to New York City for a packed day of engagements. King Charles and Queen Camilla visited the 9/11 Memorial in lower Manhattan, where the monarch laid a wreath and met New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
After some uncertainty over whether he would meet the king, Mamdani was reportedly all smiles during the meeting and told reporters he would “encourage” the king to return the Koh-i-Noor diamond, which India has demanded since its independence from Britain in 1947.
Meanwhile, Queen Camilla visited the New York Public Library to present a custom stuffed Roo, completing the set of Winnie-the-Pooh characters in honor of the beloved bear’s 100th birthday. She was joined by Sarah Jessica Parker, a longtime library supporter, and British American media executive Anna Wintour.
King Charles then visited Harlem Grown, a nonprofit community and youth empowerment group that turns abandoned urban lots into sustainable farms.
The royals later reunited for the King’s Trust Global Gala, joined by Anna Wintour, Martha Stewart, actresses Nina Dobrev and Meghann Fahy, actor Leo Woodall, supermodel Karlie Kloss, Donatella Versace, Iman and Lionel Richie, who co-chaired the event.
