Authorities release chilling 911 audio, bodycam video of deadly gun battle in Lancaster

Sheriff’s officials released harrowing 911 audio and body-camera video of a gun battle that left a man dead in Lancaster.

The intense shootout unfolded March 15 when Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 23300 block of East Avenue M after a report of a man opening fire at a neighbor.

“The neighbor is shooting. Oh my God. Hurry up, he’s coming back to me… He has a gun and alcohol, and I’m scared to death,” a caller is heard saying in 911 audio released.

“Oh my God. I’m going to die,” the caller later told the dispatcher. “Oh my God. Please, someone help me. He’s walking on my property.”

Two people had been struck by shotgun pellets, but their injuries were not life-threatening, according to authorities.

The victims told deputies the gunman left the area, and he was later spotted walking in the desert about a mile away.

Deputies tracked the shooter to a “fenced-in property,” standing behind a travel trailer. Authorities said he did not obey commands to surrender.

Bodycam footage shows the gunman opening fire at deputies, who then return fire. After the exchange of gunfire, deputies approached a makeshift shack on the property where the man retreated to.

Authorities said the man emerged from the doorway of the makeshift building, prompting deputies to shoot.

The gunman, only identified as a 60-year-old man, was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A handgun was near his body, bodycam footage showed. Authorities said they also recovered a shotgun.

No deputies were injured in the shooting.
