Cobb County police confirm they are investigating a traffic stop that ended with a driver shot and killed. Police say the man had a gun on him when he tried to get out of a crashed SUV.
The officer-involved shooting investigation started around 10:22 p.m. Friday night on Windy Hill Road and Osborne Court next to Osborne High School. Channel 2’s Brittany Kleinpeter spotted SWAT vehicles also at the scene.

Police told Channel 2’s Brittany Kleinpeter that officers tried to pull over a man in a Cadillac SUV. They said the man was driving recklessly and sped away from officers.

The driver lost control and crashed into a yard off Osborne Court. Police said the man refused to get out of the SUV and had a gun that went off.
Officers said when the man eventually tried to get out of the SUV, he had a gun on him. Officers fired their guns and the driver was hit. He died at the scene.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has now taken over the scene. The driver has not been identified.
