Ascension Parish Government announced new water meters and locking meter lids were installed throughout the Donaldsonville service area.
Per a parish government Facebook post, the meter lids automatically lock and should not be opened by customers.
The Ascension Parish government logo is shown on a car parked outside of the parish courthouse in the parish seat, Donaldsonville.
The change was made to enhance security and protect the water system, according to the post.
If access to a meter is needed due to an emergency or to report a suspected leak, residents can contact the office at (225) 450-1200, the post noted.
The after-hours emergency number is (225) 210-3030.
As mentioned on the parish’s website, the utilities department operates two water systems, including Parish Utilities of Ascension (which was formerly Peoples Water Service Company) and Ascension Consolidated Utility District 1 (which serves areas outside the City of Donaldsonville along the west side of the parish).
