Transformer fire at Seabrook nuclear plant knocked down, police say, no public risk

SEABROOK — Firefighters responded to a transformer fire on July 3 near the employee parking lot of the NextEra Seabrook nuclear plant.

Firefighters arrived at 626 Lafayette Road about 2:07 p.m. Seabrook police said that while on scene, another transformer also failed.

Both failures are believed to be due to temperatures today, which were in the high 90s.

Police said access to the parking lot was restricted to allow the Fire Department to work. It was reported that the bulk of the fire was burned out by 2:24 p.m.

“There were no casualties, no danger to the public, and no interference with the operations of the plant,” the Seabrook Police Department said in a statement on their Facebook page.
