Hundreds of tents left by festivalgoers despite pleas

Many Reading Festival attendees ignored pleas to take their tents home with hundreds clearly visible across the site on Tuesday.

Festival Republic says on its website that its aim for the event was that no tents were left behind following the annual extravaganza, which was attended by about 100,000 people.

It said that fewer tents are being discarded than in previous decades, with two-thirds of them taken home from the Richfield Avenue site after 2025’s festival.

The company has committed that all of the site will be returned to its natural state within a fortnight of the festival closing on 30 August.

It said it has seen “meaningful change” over abandoned tents in Reading and in Leeds, where it runs a sister festival over the August bank holiday weekend.

The organisers promised a Co-Op voucher for those who showed they were taking theirs home.
