Court says military can’t expel trans troops

An appeals court in Washington, DC, has ruled that the U.S. military cannot expel transgender people from its ranks, deciding 2-1 that the sweeping policy is unconstitutional. Judge Robert Wilkins wrote that the policy is “arbitrary and based upon animus” and “appears to be driven by the bare desire to harm a politically unpopular group.” A ban on transgender people enlisting in the military remains. Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, who has said transgender people “cannot satisfy the rigorous standards” necessary to serve, responded to the ruling in an X post suggesting the case would be appealed to the Supreme Court: “See you at SCOTUS.”

DC correspondents gala will try again

The White House Correspondents’ Association dinner will go on after the April 25 gala was upended when a gunman tried to storm the event. The dinner will return July 24 as “a more intimate gathering,” association president Weijia Jiang announced, saying, “We will not allow an act of violence to have the last word.” The venue was not revealed, but President Donald Trump said he would be there. “I don’t know whether or not I will give the same rather nasty statements, at least as it concerns certain people,” he posted on Truth Social. “In any event, it will be a ‘HOT’ ticket!”

Uber seats have seen it all

You might as well throw a kitchen sink in there. Uber is out with its annual Lost & Found Index, ticking off the items riders leave behind on the car seat. Among them are the most common things you’d expect people to forget: cell phones, wallets, passports, glasses, laptops. But also notably on the list for 2026: dentures, breast milk, ankle monitor, oxygen tank, live fish, mini-fridge, dishwasher, handcuffs, mannequin, pelvis implants (?), wedding gowns, 20 pounds of duck sausage, grass, trees, sack of marbles, Donny Osmond group photo − and yes, a kitchen faucet.

Charles’ ‘something’ could mean anything

President Donald Trump is a real estate guy at heart, so it’s no surprise he took pride in showing King Charles and Queen Camilla his gilded Oval Office when the royals visited in April. “They said, ‘This is something,'” Trump said at the time, then noted in another interview May 30, “You know, they have Buckingham Palace.” Some Brits on social media, however, pointed out that in England, “this is something” is not always a compliment: “It’s what you say when you have nothing good to say,” one X user wrote. The king and queen, as far as we know, never elaborated.

Thanks to the Knicks, kids can stay up late

Kids in New York City, rejoice: There will be no bedtimes, even on school nights, for the duration of the NBA Finals. Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed an executive order declaring that bedtimes are “repealed” so young fans can watch the New York Knicks battle the San Antonio Spurs in the best-of-seven championship series no matter how late the games go. The Knicks are playing in the Finals for the first time since 1999. “As Mayor, you’re forced to make many difficult decisions,” Mamdani posted on X. “This was not one of them.” − Compiled and written by Robert Abitbol
