Lindsay Clancy’s ex-husband has threatened legal action over the spread of “vile” conspiracy theories claiming he was involved in the deaths of his three children.
The trial of Massachusetts mother Lindsay Clancy lasted more than six weeks before being declared a mistrial on Sept. 4, after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict on whether Lindsay Clancy was criminally responsible for killing her children Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan in 2023.
The case drew intense scrutiny this summer, with hundreds of supporters showing up outside the courthouse to back Lindsay Clancy, whose legal team argued she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings.
In his testimony, Lindsay’s ex-husband Patrick Clancy took deep breaths as he described each of his children on the stand, telling jurors Cora loved princesses, Dawson’s favorite show was “Paw Patrol,” and Callan was “a happy baby.”
Jurors also heard the 911 call Patrick Clancy made on the night of January 24, after returning home and finding Lindsay Clancy injured outside, before discovering his children in the basement.
Patrick Clancy was ruled out as a suspect early in the investigation. Evidence presented at trial, including surveillance footage, phone records and a receipt, placed Patrick Clancy at a pharmacy picking up medication around the time investigators believe the killings took place.
Despite this, he has faced a wave of online misinformation, including false claims he was linked to the deaths of his children.
“Enough is enough — this spread of blatant and baseless falsehoods must stop,” Patrick Clancy’s lawyer Howard Cooper said in a statement Tuesday morning, according to CBS News.
“Over the past months, Patrick Clancy and his family have been subjected to a relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign,” Cooper said, adding that the “campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers and outright conspiracy theorists” seeking to boost their own profiles and profit by publishing claims they know to be false.
“Those responsible should understand that there will be consequences, and every appropriate measure will be pursued to hold them accountable, including legally,” Cooper added. “Law enforcement has been notified.”
Lindsay Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, has also expressed support for Patrick Clancy, saying that “the guy’s been through hell and back.”
“He has, as I’ve said repeatedly, stood by her, during the period of time dealing with the doctors, dealing with the medications,” Reddington told WBZ-TV. “He’s been there with her, and still stands by her by way of his testimony. And … it’s — I think it’s just horrible what he’s been going through.”
Lindsay Clancy remains charged with three counts of first-degree murder and continues to be held in state custody at a psychiatric hospital, where she’s been since before the trial began.
The next hearing in Lindsay Clancy’s case is scheduled for Sept. 29.
