SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Gardeners from across the region gathered today at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center for the highly anticipated Siouxland Garden Symposium.
This year’s symposium features a lineup of experts delving into innovative topics, from harnessing artificial intelligence in the garden to building healthy soil and mastering fruit tree cultivation.
“I’ve always figured if you’re going to be a horticulturist, you have to kill a lot of plants. And then you learn what you’re doing wrong so you can grow them. Right. So, the objective of not killing them is not always the end product. It’s getting there that you learn,” said Shawn Tabke, Union County Extension Committee.
Organizers say their goal is to empower attendees with knowledge they can put to use right away—an aim that’s at the heart of the symposium’s mission.
“We’re bringing research-based information to the general public to help them make changes in the practices that they’re doing. And so, I hope that people can take some actionable information and make a positive impact on their gardening experiences this coming year,” said Dan Fillius, Horticulture Field Specialist for Commercial Vegetables, Iowa State University.
This annual event is designed to provide both home gardeners and small-scale growers with the latest, research-based insights to elevate their gardening practices.
