Winooski has recognized April as its Arab American Heritage Month.
City Council unanimously passed a resolution that highlights the contributions of Arab Americans to the Onion City, according to a community announcement.
The resolution says that for more than a century, local Arab Americans have contributed to medicine, law, business, education, technology, government, military service and culture.
The resolution says Arab Americans in Winooski have opened and sustained local businesses, created jobs, engaged in civic processes, hosted cultural events, volunteered and supported educational opportunities within the Winooski School District.
The resolution says that celebrating those things counters misconceptions and stereotypes.
According to the announcement, the resolution expresses a desire for a peaceful and diverse society where everyone is treated equally and feels safe.
