After a brief lull in wet weather, another storm system is expected to move into Southern California late Saturday night, bringing heavier rain, gusty winds, mountain snow and the chance of thunderstorms early Sunday, forecasters say.
KTLA weather anchor Kacey Montoya said most areas will stay dry and mostly sunny Saturday, though temperatures will remain cooler than average. Gusty winds are expected in the mountains and deserts, where gusts could reach 45 to 50 mph through the afternoon.
The main storm system arrives overnight, with the heaviest rain expected during the early morning hours Sunday. Montoya said the system could bring around a half-inch of rain across parts of the region, along with isolated thunderstorms.
Higher elevations could also see accumulating snow, with up to 6 inches possible above 7,000 feet.
A winter weather advisory is scheduled to take effect at 9 p.m. Saturday for mountain areas expected to see snow and strong winds, Montoya noted.
Along the coast, highs will reach the mid-60s Saturday before showers move in early Sunday, with a chance of thunderstorms and lingering showers possible into Monday morning.
In the Inland Empire, temperatures are expected to reach about 70 degrees Saturday with partly cloudy skies and breezy conditions before rain develops overnight. Similar conditions are expected in the High Desert, where gusty winds Saturday will give way to rain and possible thunderstorms Sunday.
Forecasters expect conditions to dry out by Monday, with temperatures warming back into the 70s by Tuesday.
