Chipotle Mexican Grill opened this week in New Bedford’s Fieldstone Plaza. The restaurant features the brand’s signature Chipotlane, a drive-thru pick-up lane that allows guests to conveniently pick up digital orders without leaving their cars. Chipotle takes the place of the former Newport Creamery, which closed and was torn down several years ago.
Residents in Acushnet, Carver, Lakeville, Mattapoisett, and Rochester are expected to vote on a proposed new building for Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School. The vote is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 20. The proposal, which was previously voted on last year, is expected to include significant state reimbursement through the Massachusetts School Building Authority.

A historic New Bedford church property has been put up for sale.
The former St. Joseph-St. Therese Church at 51 Duncan St., across from Brooklawn Park, has been listed for sale with an asking price of $2.9 million.
The sale includes the now-vacant church, the rectory building, and a parking lot across Duncan Street. All are currently owned by the Diocese of Fall River.

Fifteen of the town’s 20 highest-paid employees in 2025 were police officers, four were school department employees, and one was a town-side employee.
In 2024, 17 of the town’s 20 highest-paid employees were police officers, two were school department employees, and one was a town-side employee.
The largest salary in 2025 was $223,174.01, and number 20 was $157,584.91.

A three-story building with a basement level on the Coggeshall Street site has been recommended.
A consultant has recommended that the New Bedford Police Department’s new headquarters be built on city- and state-owned land at 360 Coggeshall St.
The planning and architectural firm Caolo & Bieniek Associates Inc. recommended 360 Coggeshall St., “due to its central location throughout the city of New Bedford, adjacency to the downtown development, ample utilities to serve a building of this size, and existing infrastructure for police traffic patterns and resident access to the new Police Headquarters” in its facilities study.
The building at the site is the former John H. Clifford School. The building was constructed around 1900, according to Standard-Times archives, and used as an elementary school until the mid-1970s.

What started as a personal health decision to learn how to make sourdough has grown into a thriving local micro bakery.
“I started sourdough in 2023, just for my own health. I was trying to buy stuff in the store, and reading labels, and realized it wasn’t going to be an option,” said Jenn Kite, owner of The Rustic Crumb Microbakery.
The Rustic Crumb serves customers in several ways: through wholesale deliveries, menu drops for preorders, special-event orders, and a self-serve bread box outside her home.

Endzone Sports Pub has been listed for sale.
A New Bedford classic since 1994, Endzone Sports Pub has been a staple on Coggeshall Street. Now the business is for sale.
The restaurant remains open, and no public announcement has been made, but the property at 218 Coggeshall St. was listed for sale last month by Coastal Realty.
