Trump Blasts ‘Disloyal’ Senator Who Voted To Impeach Him, Urges Votes For Challenger On Morning Of GOP Primary

PresidentDonald Trump delivered a diatribe against incumbent Sen. Bill Cassidy(R-La.), reiterating his support for his challenger in Saturday’s Louisiana Senate primary, Rep. Julia Letlow (R-La.).

“Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana is a disloyal disaster,” the president wrote on Truth Social on Saturday. “His entire past campaign for the Senate was about ‘TRUMP,’ how he’s with me all the way, and then, after winning, he turned around and voted to IMPEACH me for something that has now proven to be total ‘********!’”

Cassidy was one of a handful of Republican senators who voted to convict Trump at his impeachment trial in 2021. Since then, Trump has hammered the senator for what he characterizes as the senator’s disloyalty.

“Bill Cassidy is a sleazebag, a terrible guy, who is BAD FOR LOUISIANA,” Trump wrote Saturday. “Now he’s going to get CLOBBERED, hopefully, in today’s BIG election, by two great people!!!”

In Saturday’s primary, Cassidy faces the Trump-backed Letlow along with former Rep. John Fleming (R-La.). Polling has shown Fleming in the lead over the other candidates. If no candidate wins 50% of the vote, the top two contenders will go head-to-head in a runoff election.

Trump urged Letlow to run against Cassidy back in January, and his enthusiasm for Letlow remained high in his Saturday post.

“VOTE TODAY FOR JULIA L.,” he wrote. “She Is a winner who will NEVER let you down.”
