Greenville Police have made a second arrest in the Haywood Mall shooting that left two injured during a verbal altercation last weekend.
Kalief Walker, the 18-year-old who was transported to the hospital after the incident on June 13, was arrested Friday, June 19, and charged with breach of peace, high and aggravated, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and possession of a stolen pistol, according to Sgt. Johnathan Bragg with the Greenville Police Department. Kalief Walker was released from the hospital on June 19.
On Saturday, June 13, a Greenville police officer stationed at Haywood Mall responded to sounds of gunshots at about 1:11 p.m.
When the officer moved to the plaza between Macy’s and Belk, where the shots were heard, he discovered a female with a gunshot wound to the foot. As he moved to Belk, he found a male with a gunshot wound to his neck and shoulder area. The officer provided descriptions of the fleeing suspects to responding officers and arrested Kamari Walker on the scene.
Kamari Walker, 17, was arrested and charged as an adult with assault and battery, high and aggravated, in the shooting.
“The incident appears to have been isolated and began when two groups of individuals who knew each other got into a verbal altercation that escalated into gunfire,” Bragg said.
Greenville police to increase the number of officers stationed at Haywood Mall
According to Bragg, the agency is working with Haywood Mall to increase the number of off-duty police officers.
“We value our strong, longstanding partnership with Haywood Mall management, which remains proactive in public safety,” Bragg said.
He said the increase in the number of officers is currently being implemented.

In 2025, the mall stepped up security following reports of fights
In June 2025, Haywood Mall released a statement saying it would be stepping up security following several reports of fighting at the mall.
“The safety and security of our shoppers, retailers, and employees is our highest priority,” according to a statement from the mall to the Greenville News in 2025.
The mall statement in 2025 said it was committed to maintaining a strong security program that includes collaborating with law enforcement and a Greenville Police Department substation on the mall’s property. Authorities also stepped up security in and around the retail center, including increasing the police presence, according to the 2025 statement. The center is supported by operational surveillance.
