Two brothers from Pickerington are now facing felonious assault charges in connection with an Independence Day shooting that critically injured a man following a fireworks celebration in Westerville.
The brothers, who are 18 and 19 years old, each face felonious assault charges in connection with the shooting, according to Delaware County Municipal Court records. The shooting occurred at around 10:50 p.m. July 4 in a parking lot behind 428 County Line Road, across the road from the Westerville Community Center.
The Dispatch is not naming the suspects at this time. The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to a post on Westerville’s official Facebook page. It is unclear if the victim’s condition had improved as of July 6.
The two brothers were arrested at the scene. Court records do not say what led to the shooting or whether one or both men fired, but 13 shell casings were recovered at the scene, according to statements in court July 6.
“Public safety was already on site, and officers responded immediately and apprehended the two suspects, who are in custody,” Westerville said on its Facebook page.
Several agencies assisted with the response to the shooting, including the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Genoa Township Police, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and Columbus police.
The brothers were each ordered held in lieu of $1 million bond at arraignment on July 6.
