Layne’s Chicken Fingers nears opening of first San Antonio restaurant

One of the hottest homegrown fast-food empires now appears weeks away from opening its first outpost in the Alamo City. San Antonians and Leon Valley residents driving up and down Bandera Road will not have to wait much longer for their first taste of Layne’s Chicken Fingers.

Plans for the Layne’s Chicken Fingers were first announced in March, with a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing predicting the $500,000 renovation would finish by August 31. Well, as of Tuesday, September 8, Layne’s has yet to open, but construction has made major progress. Construction workers on site told MySA that Layne’s is aiming for an end-of-September opening, but an official opening date has not yet been announced.

The company has not been quiet about it either. A billboard near Bandera and Guilbeau was put up a few weeks back, heralding the arrival of Layne’s Chicken Fingers with a “Coming Soon” message. Meanwhile, the restaurant’s bright red and white colors have quickly caught drivers’ attention as they come and go along Bandera.

The address was formerly a Carl’s Jr., but construction officials told MySA that the building’s age has made getting power an issue. CPS Energy crews were on site Tuesday morning for that very reason.

Layne’s Chicken Fingers first opened in College Station in 1994 and has since expanded to more than 50 restaurants across Texas, and even more across Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

MySA reached out to Layne’s Chicken Fingers for an official opening date.
