Texas bakery stirs controversy again ahead of Trump GOP convention

A Texas bakery that has previously gone viral for criticizing President Donald Trump and his administration is once again drawing attention as Trump arrives in the state for the Republican Party’s first-ever midterm convention.

The Hive Bakery in Flower Mound, roughly 30 miles from the convention site in Dallas, is selling cookies featuring an expletive directed at Trump. According to the bakery’s social media pages, the treats have already begun selling out daily.

The bakery’s latest treats come as Republicans kick off a two-day midterm convention Wednesday, Sept. 9, in Dallas. Republicans have dubbed the first-of-its-kind gathering “Trumpapalooza,” with Trump and more than 100 Republican officials, candidates and administration figures scheduled to take the stage.

The Hive Bakery has made national headlines before for mixing politics with pastries.

On July 3, The Hive Bakery posted on Facebook that it was “not wanting to celebrate the 4th this year,” saying its owners were “embarrassed, afraid, and disappointed in what this country has become.”

The post drew national attention and added to the bakery’s reputation for openly weighing in on political issues through both its social media presence and its baked goods.

“MAGA is adversarial,” the post added, saying it would remain open on the holiday. “Those conservatives who still have rational thought have left the MAGA movement. Those who remain and continue to support the most corrupt administration in our nation’s history are here, wishing for our bakery to burn to the ground.”

The bakery said it had sold out of “Distress Sugar Cookies,” which featured an upside-down American flag with the words “Under Distress.”

Hive Bakery is a two-time Food Network Champion, and award-winning bakery that specializes in one of a kind, custom cakes and desserts, all made from scratch, according to its website.
