Dry, cooler-than-normal temps in store for Detroit Ford Fireworks show

The forecast for this year’s Detroit Ford Fireworks on Monday looks like it will be dynamite for the show.

The National Weather Service predicts dry conditions and cooler-than-usual temperatures before the event starts at 10 p.m.

Before that happens, though, overnight light rain and cloudy skies that lingered into early Monday morning should move out of the region, according to the agency.

“Showers with a rumble of thunder continue into early morning, mainly south of the Tri-Cities and northern Thumb, transitioning to light rain before ending toward noon,” NWS officials said. “Dry weather moves in this afternoon and continues tonight and Tuesday.”

The weather service said the weakening of a low-pressure system over the Ohio Valley and its eastward exit are behind the diminishing rain. High pressure building into the upper Midwest will help stabilize the weather over Lower Michigan, according to NWS.

High temperatures across the region on Monday are expected to range between 70 and 77 degrees, the forecast said.

Detroit’s high temperature is expected to reach 73 on Monday. The city’s average monthly high temperature in June is 79.7, according to the weather service’s data.

For last year’s Detroit fireworks show, the high was 95, which set a record for the day.

The hottest June 22 in Detroit was in 1988, with 98, weather service records show.

What to expect the rest of the week

Meteorologists with the agency are also calling for slightly cooler than normal temperatures through mid to late week.

On Tuesday, southeast Michigan’s high temperatures could range between 71 and 78, the NWS said. Those are expected to rise to between 75 and 78 on Wednesday, and continue warming up to 76 and 80 on Thursday, and push into the 77-80 range on Friday.

Tuesday’s high temperature in Detroit is expected to reach 78, according to the forecast. That should repeat on Wednesday before rising slightly to 80 on Thursday. The warmup in the city should continue on Friday with the high rising to 81.

NWS officials also said that the next chance for rain is expected on Wednesday.
