Family mourns teen killed in Abington crash amid recent family losses

Three teens are in the hospital with serious injuries after a crash in Abington Wednesday morning.

Authorities say 17-year-old Sebastian Hamilton was driving a reported stolen car when an officer attempted a traffic stop. The car was seen driving away before crashing into a tree.

Hamilton was pronounced dead on scene while a second female victim was pronounced dead on Friday evening.

“It’s heartbreaking, it seems like it isn’t real. It’s just too much at once,” Lacey Kearns said.

Kearns says they didn’t even know Sebastian was involved in a car until the next day. They were at a funeral for Sebastian’s father and stepmom.

“So sad just being in the funeral and the church and they had the bagpipes playing and you’re just finding this out.” Kearns said. “I was just whispering while talking about it. I told my mom and she immediately started crying.”

Sebastian’s father Matthew Hamilton died from sickness back on June 15th. His ex-wife, and Sebastian’s stepmom, Erin, died a few weeks later in her sleep.

Kearns said the family was already devastated, and Sebastian’s death was hard to believe.

“It’s very strange I don’t like saying bad luck but how much bad luck and tragedy can you have in one line of people like families.”

Sebastian’s grandmother, Brenda LaCombe, was murdered in 1982. She was kidnapped in Lowell and her body was later found in Harvard. 44 years later, the attacked has not been found. It’s a case our Bob Ward has covered on New England’s unsolved.

Kearns says Sebastian spent most of his life in Naples, Florida. He recently moved back home to Massachusetts and was not known for getting into trouble.

“He was kind. I could only imagine what he was going through that causes someone to act out. Especially kids dealing with something like that. Losing your father and then your stepmother and then the world probably just seems empty, confusing.”
