Fred Meyer points now offer Oregon shoppers discounts on groceries

Fred Myer is changing up its rewards system, allowing Oregon shoppers to choose whether they want to use their earned points for gas or groceries.

Customers with memberships at the Kroger-owned stores have traditionally been restricted to using rewards points for discounts on gas at Fred Meyer stations.

Now, members can also redeem their points for grocery discounts in $1 increments, according to a release. The change applies to all Kroger stores.

Fred Meyer officials said the Oregon-based brand is changing its “Fuel Points” to just “Points,” giving members more flexibility by letting them choose whether they want to redeem their rewards for discounts on groceries or gas.

“Our goal is to empower customers to maximize their budgets while offering greater flexibility in how they redeem their loyalty rewards,” Fred Meyer head of communications Tiffany Sanders said. “From fuel savings to discounts on groceries, we’re giving shoppers the freedom to prioritize the rewards that best fit their needs.”
