Homeowners in parts of Ascension, Assumption, Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes not connected to a public sewer system may qualify reimbursement for home system repairs or replacement, according to a news release.
The cost of pumping out, repairing or replacing failing home sewerage systems is available to eligible homeowners living along Bayou Lafourche, Bayou Folse and Bayou Terrebonne with system expenses, per the release.
Grant funding is provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium in partnership with the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program and South Central Planning and Development Commission.
The program has been designed to reduce the financial burden of maintaining home systems while protecting local bayous and surrounding communities, according to the announcement.
Funds through the program are limited and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis until exhausted.
Per the release, disadvantaged applicants can receive up to $4,000, non-disadvantaged applicants up to $2,000 and pump-out expenses are eligible for reimbursement.
Participants must allow SCPDC to conduct a free on-site inspection. If a repair is needed, the program will refer the homeowner to a licensed contractor. A final inspection will be done prior to the issuance of reimbursement.
