There will be several thunderstorms on June 8 with some producing very heavy rain. That rain is expected to lessen for a time midweek but then pick up again Thursday as a cold front arrives, NWS wrote in a social media post.
Over central Illinois the area, 1 to 2.5 inches are forecast from Monday to Friday evening, but the storm June 8 could bring 2 to 3 inches per hour at times for select areas, said Meteorologist Rebekka Copple who is with the NWS.
There is some uncertainty about where the heaviest storms will be.
Springfield as of Monday morning was forecast to experience just under 2 inches of rain for the week. Springfield shows a high near 90 on Tuesday and a high near 91 on Thursday.
