Ascension Parish Library announced it has received a $1,500 Parish America 250 Program Mini Grant, which will fund a series focused on music.
Provided by the state’s Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, the grant supports programming that highlights Louisiana’s contributions to the founding and development of the U.S., according to an APL news release.
The library system plans to use the grant funding for a six-week series centered on how American music has shaped the country’s history, identity and culture, per the announcement.
The series has been scheduled to begin Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. at the library’s Gonzales branch.
Participants can expect discussions on both patriotic anthems and protest songs, along with jazz, hip hop and more.
The grant was one of 25 awarded by LEH to libraries, schools, museums and government agencies throughout the state.
