Juvenile fatally hit by train while trying to cross track in Independence Heights, police say


A juvenile was killed Friday night while trying to cross a railroad track ahead of an oncoming train in Houston’s Independence Heights neighborhood, police said.

About 8 p.m., the boy was with two others heading south on North Main near East 37th Street, said HPD Lt. M. Pulido. He tried to cross the track in an attempt to beat the train when he was fatally struck.

HPD and Union Pacific authorities are investigating.
