An arrest has not yet been made after the body of a newborn baby was found in a portable restroom 10 days ago at Electric Forest, Michigan State Police Spl/Lt. Pat Agema told the Free Press on Wednesday, July 8.
Agema said tips provided by the public are being vetted by MSP officers as the investigation remains ongoing.
Officers recognize the significance of the incident, and it is a top priority for investigators, Agema said.
According to a news release, “the body of a neonate” was discovered by an employee of the restroom vending company during routine maintenance in the festival’s camping area.
Police are asking festivalgoers who observed anything unusual to contact Michigan State Police at michigan.gov/michtip.
“We appreciate the public’s cooperation and ask that people avoid speculation on social media out of respect for the investigation and those affected,” MSP said in a post on X.
Electric Forest, Michigan’s largest music festival, attracts tens of thousands every year.
The festival takes place annually in Rothbury, in west Michigan.
Rothbury is about 22 miles north of Muskegon off U.S. 31, between Whitehall and New Era.
