The Owensboro Fire Department is participating in lighthearted TikTok trends after creating an account in February, while also delivering important safety messages.
In the first video posted Feb. 12, Deputy Fire Marshal Brian Roberts said the goal is to reach a broader audience with public safety information.
“Here’s the thing. We’ve learned that some of you on the internet are hard to reach when it comes to getting our important public safety messages out,” Roberts said. “So we’re willing to jump on a few trends so you can hear our message, even if it means we look a little silly.”

The videos use humor and exaggerated situations to get messages across, including reminders to change smoke alarm batteries, exit immediately during a fire and have a plan in place during emergency situations.
Some of the content also highlights recruitment efforts, department events and even includes fire safety themed Valentine’s Day pick-up lines. See some of the videos below.
