Scout Shows Different Traveler SUV Personalities With New Concepts

Scout Motors is showing off the versatility of its upcoming Traveler SUV platform with two new design studies: the warm and wealthy “Mountainside” concept and a heavy-duty “trail-ready” build.

Both concepts build off the Traveler platform but paint totally different pictures. The twin builds make their public debut at the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience in Colorado.

This is the third time Scout has rolled out a new design study concept since pushing launch back until 2028.

The Mountainside concept targets family-oriented “quiet luxury,” wearing a new Morning Dusk charcoal-brown paint with embedded gold metallic flakes to catch early morning sunlight. It rides on anodized black 22-inch Vault wheels wrapped in 35-inch tires. To keep the body lines crisp, the team deleted the exterior rear spare tire carrier.

Inside, the Alpine District cabin incorporates semi-aniline leather, gray woven fabric featuring a plaid pattern inspired by classic vintage Scouts, houndstooth headliner accents, and recycled walnut wood trim.

Scout Trail-Ready Traveler Concept Design

The trail-ready concept takes a far more utilitarian approach, outfitted with full-metal front and rear bumpers, integrated rock rails, a front-mounted winch, an elevated roof rack with auxiliary trail lights, and an exterior spare tire mount with an integrated fuel caddy.

It rides on 18-inch black beadlock wheels mounted inside 35-inch all-terrain tires, wrapped in a Galvanized Steel exterior finish with a contrasting Canvas roof. The cabin features a hard-wearing Denim District layout trimmed in Brick Red leather and rugged denim upholstery accents.

Scout clarified that neither concept represents a direct production trim. Instead, the eventual production Traveler will merge elements from both design studies to balance daily comfort with serious trail capability.

Scout’s South Carolina Manufacturing and Powertrain Plan

Assembly will take place at Scout’s new manufacturing center in Blythewood, South Carolina. Scout reiterated plans to begin building initial validation prototypes through 2026 and 2027, with customer deliveries scheduled to follow.

Engineering targets for the body-on-frame production SUV include over 12 inches of ground clearance and a maximum towing capacity exceeding 7,000 pounds. Entry-level pricing is projected to start under $60,000, supported by fully refundable $100 customer reservations.

Scout plans to launch the Traveler with two distinct energy systems. The primary powertrain option is the “Harvester” range-extended setup, which uses a compact onboard gasoline generator to charge the battery pack and push total driving range past 500 miles. A fully electric (BEV) variant will follow, targeting roughly 350 miles of all-electric driving range on a full charge.
