‘SNL’ and ‘Roommates’ writer Jimmy Fowlie says missing sister is ‘no longer alive’ as case becomes homicide investigation

Saturday Night Live writer Jimmy Fowlie said on Wednesday that his sister, Christina Downer, 38, is “no longer alive” following a months-long missing persons investigation.

“The [Los Angeles Police Department] has informed our family that Christina is no longer alive, and the case has officially transitioned from a missing person to a homicide investigation,” Fowlie, who is also a cowriter on the Netflix comedy Roommates, wrote on Instagram. “Our prayers for her to be found safely have transformed into prayers for the truth to be revealed and for those responsible to be held accountable. We have reason to believe that in the weeks before she went missing, her phone and social media were compromised.”

He alleged that the person, or people, whom he believes took possession of her phone used it to create a “false narrative” that Downer was “off the grid” and ask for money.

The LAPD did not immediately respond to Yahoo’s request for comment.

Fowlie, who also shared personal photos of Downer in the post, called his sister a “beautiful person” who “matters in this world, especially to me.”

“I also believe there is a chance that someone who knows something might find the courage to step forward,” he said. “My sister can no longer advocate for herself, but I can and I hope you will too. The best way you could support me in this moment is to share this post and to talk about her story.”

Fowlie first told his Instagram followers that his sister was missing on Dec. 22, 2025, when he shared her missing person photo. One day later, he shared another post with photos of Downer and her dog, stating that Downer was “very attached” to him. In that post, Fowlie said that he last heard from Downer on Nov. 26, 2025, and that she was active on social media up until Dec. 15, 2025.

About a week later, Fowlie posted again, saying the last time anyone spoke to Downer on the phone was Oct. 5. “Texts from her phone continued through December and the last social media post was December 15th,” he said.

On Jan. 9, Fowlie shared a family video of Downer, noting in his Instagram post that she had no history of mental illness and had not dropped off the grid before.

The California Department of Justice, which has a missing persons page for Downer, said her last point of contact was on Nov. 26, 2025. According to the LAPD website, her last known location was in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Fowlie, a performer as well as a writer, began his work on SNL with Season 48, in 2022. He has appeared on shows like Search Party, English Teacher and The Other Two, for which he also wrote. He is one of the writers behind the Netflix special A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter.
