A finance official at a senior living facilty in Steuben County was arrested for allegedly misappropriating over $45,000 from more than two dozen residents at the center.
Hornell-based New York State Police on March 31 charged Brenda L. Buck, 59, of Allegany, New York with felony third-degree grand larceny and felony first-degree falsifying business records in connection with the case.
Troopers said Buck, an employee, was responsible for managing resident financial accounts at the senior living complex located in the town of Hornellsville.
Authorities said a corporate audit revealed irregularities involving a cash account used for resident transactions. That triggered a state police investigation begun on March 26.
According to Investigators, between March 2025 and March 2026, Buck allegedly misappropriated approximately $46,000 from the cash account and then attempted to conceal the thefts by forging the signatures of residents.
Approximately 30 residents at the facility were victimized in the fraud, state police said.
