Show up.
That was Aubrey Wright’s answer to how she’d cover news in Indianapolis during the interview that landed her a role on IndyStar’s public safety team.
“Go to events and into neighborhoods to meet people where they are,” Wright said. “People value face-to-face interaction.”
Her other approach?
“Just be a sponge,” she said.
She’s been doing that work for the past three years as part of Indiana Public Media, where she most recently worked at Report for America corps member and multimedia journalist for Bloomington’s NPR and PBS affiliate station after graduating from Ohio State University.
Her stories have touched on public safety and criminal justice, higher education, immigration and government. Before coming to Indiana, Wright spent time as a metro desk intern at The Columbus Dispatch – a sister paper to IndyStar and part of the USA TODAY Network – and served as managing editor of The Lantern at The Ohio State University, helping lead breaking news coverage and training reporters on safety in the field.
Wright brings experience across digital, video, audio and social platforms, but more than that, she brings a passion for public service journalism and enthusiasm for covering the stories that matter most to readers.
