Community Health Care, Whiteside County Health Department awarded state construction grants

The Illinois Capital Development Board (CDB) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced $50 million in grant funding has been awarded to 21 grantees through the Community Health Center Construction Grant Program. This funding comes from the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which supports constructing, expanding and improving community healthcare facilities across Illinois.

In the QCA, Community Health Care, Inc in Rock Island will receive $3 million and the Whiteside County Health Department will receive $806,080.

The Community Health Center Construction Grant Program provides grants for up to $3 million to federally qualified health centers and look-alikes for capital improvement projects. Funding can be used to renovate healthcare infrastructure, increase facility capacity and expand access to care and services in Illinois communities, especially in underserved and rural areas.

“The Community Health Center Construction Grant Program will help reduce healthcare disparities and better meet the needs of patients and healthcare staff,” said CDB Executive Director TJ Edwards. “CDB is proud to partner with IDPH to ensure these projects give providers the spaces they need to deliver high-quality care.”

“Public health is driven by the power of partnership,” said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra. “Community health centers are an essential component of our efforts to improve public health by ensuring that health services and programs are easily accessible in every Illinois community. We are pleased to work with the Capital Development Board and local partners around the state on projects that will help ensure care is available to all who need it.”

The maximum contract period for the grants is five years and all projects must be operational at the end of the grant term. The organizations were chosen after a merit-based review in accordance with Grant Accountability and Transparency Act (GATA) Uniform Requirements.
