Louisville man enters plea in Lenny’s Lounge shooting case

A Louisville man facing charges in connection with a Klondike neighborhood club shooting that left four people injured entered a plea during a March 30 hearing.

Ezekiel Dean, 32, of Louisville, pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of assault and possessing a handgun as a convicted felon after he was indicted by a grand jury March 23. His cash bond was set at $250,000 during the hearing, and he is currently being held at Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.

Louisville Metro Police responded to a report of a shooting at Lenny’s Lounge, 3700 Klondike Lane, at 5:32 a.m. Jan. 4, spokesperson Matt Sanders said. When officers arrived, they found “a chaotic scene” and “at least two young adults suffering from gunshot wounds.”

Two others who were shot inside the lounge took themselves to area hospitals but were later rerouted to UofL Hospital by medical staff. Of those injured, three are between the ages of 18 and 21, and the fourth is 17 years old.

Following the shooting, Louisville Metro Alcoholic Beverage Control said it was notified by LMPD of a shooting incident that occurred at the business. Upon notification, ABC immediately opened an emergency suspension investigation to review the circumstances surrounding the incident and the licensee’s operations, but declined to offer further details Jan. 5, citing the ongoing investigation.

Lenny’s Lounge closed following the incident, though owner James Conner said he had planned to close by the end of January, regardless.

Dean is next scheduled to appear in court May 20.
