Franklin B. Walter was Ohio’s state superintendent from March 1977 to August 1991. Throughout his career, Walter demonstrated a deep concern for young people and dedicated his life to enhancing education in Ohio. Award recipients are chosen based on their academic achievements, personal accomplishments and community service.

Port Clinton had another senior receive Walter award last year

Weit is actively involved in several extracurricular activities at PCHS and has numerous leadership roles. Weit serves as historian for the Leadership Council, treasurer for both National Honor Society and Drama Club, secretary for the International Club and is a member of the PCHS band.

His leadership skills led his selection on the Ohio Association of Student Leaders Executive Board. He is also captain of the Academic Challenge Team. In addition, Weit is a student athlete and was a state qualifier and current team captain for PCHS tennis.

Weit is the son of Steve Weit and Sonal Vyas-Weit. Next year, he plans to attend Boston University to study political science with a focus on pre-law.

PCHS has had two Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award winners in two years. Last year, Sam Roberts received the honor.
