First founded in 1987, Babe’s has been a San Antonio staple for almost 40 years, treating everyone in the Alamo City to simple yet delicious food that hits the spot every time. As for what to eat, Babe’s might have the best burgers in all of San Antonio.
Those burgers range from the $7.49 old-fashioned hamburger and the mushroom Swiss burger to the chili cheeseburger and guacamole cheeseburger. The double cheeseburger is the most costly at $10.49, but every dollar gets you more beef than you’ll find at the Whataburger on the corner. The double cheeseburger is almost too much beef if you don’t want to risk the burger falling apart, but the bacon cheeseburger comes out hot and juicy. All the burgers are going to be greasy, but the sesame buns hold up much better than other burger joints and bring the whole bite together. Add in the melting cheese and crunchy bacon, and you’ve got a delicious lunch/dinner to enjoy.

Sipping on a Pepsi or Dr Pepper, Babe’s has plenty of eye candy as you look around. Aside from the arcade games in the back, every table has classic baseball cards sitting under a piece of glass, making every visit a game to see what new player you discover. Add in the neon signs for Shiner and Bud Light, and the whole picture of a family-friendly Texas burger roadhouse comes together.
Aside from burgers, you can enjoy chicken strips, chicken sandwiches, six different pizzas, nachos, wings, various sandwiches and multiple sides to fill up your table. The French fries are cut fresh and offer a nice crunch with each bite. The fried mushrooms and onion rings are fun snacks, but we recommend getting fried pickles for the table.

Lastly, if you’re looking for something sweet to go with the hot food, grab a strawberry milkshake. Made with fresh chunks of strawberry, it’s a perfect treat to cap off the evening.
