Raleigh fundraiser helps support NC State student badly hurt in South Carolina hit and run

Friends, family and coworkers came together Friday night to support a North Carolina State University student who was left for dead by a hit-and-run driver in South Carolina.

Brayden Bulger was in Hilton Head with his frat brothers when he was hit by a car that sped away.

Bulger suffered a traumatic brain injury, but Friday night, ABC11 learned encouraging news.

Bulger was responsive and was even sending Snapchats to his buddies back here in Raleigh.

Jack Belivaew, Bulger’s best friend, told ABC11 he spoke to him on Friday.

“He had a difficulty opening his phone yesterday, so, for him to be able to get on it, put in his password, open Snapchat, and be able to answer us and be coherent about it, it’s awesome to see,” Belivaew said. “I truly get emotional talking about it because, like I said, he shouldn’t be alive today.”

On Friday, North Street Beer Station, where Bulger works, hosted a fundraiser with 15% of all proceeds helping to pay his medical bills.

Bulger is a finance major and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon at NC State.

His older brother, Mason Bulger, said Friday night that the support from the community has been overwhelming.

“The money that’s coming in for him, it’s more than we could ever ask for,” Mason Bulger said. “He’s going to love that when he sees that.”

North Street Beer Station is open until 2 a.m. on Friday.

“I look forward to seeing him back and better than ever,” Mason Bulger said.
